I’m sensing white smoke pouring from the Vatican on the “which car to buy?” issue. Spence could start a “toys our wives won’t let us buy” support group with my husband.

I love that you accounted for the maintenance of the Scout, a classic, no doubt. I have a friend that is very fond of the Scout, has had several, restored one, and I’m sure would be glad to chat with you about whether your budget for maintenance would be enough to cover probable actual costs.
I love a Honda and have owned 3. Be aware that a timing belt replacement on a Honda at 100k miles can be $700-$1000.
I think a fund for maintenance is a great Idea because nothing blows a budget like unforseen expenses…and the starship may blow up on lift off…you never know!…however I do understand where lisa is coming from…..Love Hondas by the way.

Have you thought about having just ONE vehicle??? If you remain flexible and keep that communication open – you should be able to make it work.
It’s just a faster way to get you to baby step 3.
If that’s a no go – then my vote is for 2 Honda’s. Sorry Spence.
We have considered it, but with Spence working 3rd shift and us barely crossing paths every day, it would make it difficult. Other than that, we would definitely do it!

What are the miles on all of the cars? That should be a big deciding factor too. I know Honda’s can run for 300K miles…Scout, not so much. Also, what about the previous maintenance for the cars? If the Honda’s haven’t been taken care of, they may actually wear out faster than the Scout. Just something else to keep in mind
That’s a good point Sal. We haven’t actually pinned down a Honda yet, but pricing them out, we can afford one with around 100-130k miles on it. The Scout has 36k actual miles, so it is considerably lower.
Any mechanics out there? I’d love to know what you think about Sal’s comment and the mileage one could get out of a Honda vs a Scout.

Spencer, every guy want’s some old Scout, Bronco, Jeep whatever….They get like 12 miles to the gallon, not to mention you have two kids to drive around safely. Add a vote to the landslide, and someday you can have a scout with lisa’s karman ghia….
